A George III Period Mahogany Small Side Cabinet with Tambour Doors

English Ca, 1770

This rare mahogany cabinet, distinguished by its double tambour doors, is a most unusual example of eighteenth-century English craftsmanship. Its innovative construction, featuring twin tambours above a recessed shelf, places it remarkably ahead of its time.

At first glance, it possesses all the visual sensibilities of a contemporary design piece; yet, upon closer inspection, one discovers an object more than two centuries prescient. The top displays an exceptionally fine cut of mahogany. Furthermore the piece is free standing and on small original castors. Whether employed as an elegant hall cabinet or an intimate drinks cupboard, a rarity of this calibre lends an undeniable refinement to any room.
