English, ca. 1780
This exceptional demi-lune side table showcases superb eighteenth-century craftsmanship, executed with the finest gilding and composition work, and preserved in remarkable condition. The rich West Indian satinwood displays a warm colour and striking figuring, framed by a sycamore marquetry border delicately inlaid with floral motifs.
A particularly rare and distinctive element is the large, beautifully painted panel depicting an ancient Greek scene featuring Demeter, the goddess of the harvest.
